What You’ll Do

In this role, you will lead the real estate team to develop and execute The Gymboree Group, Inc.’s Real Estate Strategy across all brands in the US and Canada. This role is accountable for formulating and executing real estate strategies and providing internal and external leadership that furthers The Gymboree Group’s interests within the Real Estate communities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the Real Estate Department including strategy, Committee, dealmakers, lease administration, legal and managing the pipeline process ensuring high quality and efficient decisions are made to optimize the real estate portfolio.
  • This is a leadership role, overseeing and directing our real estate team in the achievement of strategic objectives and initiatives including market strategy and planning, site selection, demographic analysis, cannibalization analysis, lease negotiations, pipeline management, store closings, and other real estate related projects.
  • Develop real estate team to ensure all are aligned to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Ensure teams follow established strategies, pipeline, and deal processes.
  • Creatively drive opportunities to maximize return on investment and reduce costs with strong financial focus on EBITDA and ROI.
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding large-scale planning and development and consult with key stakeholders to align department plans with company strategies and across all brands.
  • Oversee financial objectives and forecasting. Identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to improve results and profitability.
  • Build strong partnership with executives across the company (such as Legal, Finance, Store Operations & Construction etc.) and Brand executives to ensure effective execution of store capital and lease actions.
  • Work closely with store design construction team on timelines for various capex projects including remodels, relocations and new stores.
  • Develop and maintain key real estate and retailing industry relationships including landlords, brokers and retailers.
  • Oversee corporate real estate needs and transactions

Job Requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum of 15+ years’ experience in a Real Estate leadership role, multi-brand retail experience required.
  • Strong industry reputation and a track record of building relationships with Retail Brokers, Developers and Landlords.
  • Extensive experience in specialty retail leasing, including regional shopping centers, lifestyle centers, high-street, and Outlet centers throughout the US and Canada.
  • Extensive experience with larger landlord/real estate developers, including portfolio partners and outlet centers in US and Canada.
  • Thorough knowledge in and experience with advanced negotiation strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, communicate and provide leadership in a Retail organization.
  • Ability to develop, motivate and lead a real estate team.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory issues related to Retail Real Estate deals.
  • Strong executive presence; excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; articulate communicator with strong retail financial, analytical, and accounting skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment and prioritize workload to manage multiple projects with strict deadlines
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills in order to evaluate systems and processes and implement “best in class” practices.
  • Must be a team player with can do attitude
  • Ability to think strategically and develop achievable long term goals
  • Strong quantitative, analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
