What You’ll Do

As Sr. Director, Internal Communications, you will create and manage internal communications programs to inform, motivate and engage employees throughout the organization, while supporting the cross-functional leadership team in communicating the key corporate messages to external audiences. The position is based in our San Francisco, CA home office and reports to the Vice President, Human Resources. The Sr. Director, Communications collaborates closely with the Human Resources, Marketing, Facilities and IT teams, as well as functional experts from various departments. The Sr. Director, Communications will have responsibilities that require regular interactions with executives as well as outside agencies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Create and implement strategic internal communications plan that drives employee engagement, informs employees and reinforces the company values and vision.
  • Develop and deliver compelling, consistent messages via online, written, print, in-person communications channels.
  • Monitor and measure impact of employee communications programs and initiatives with internal audiences. Make recommendations as needed to ensure communications goals are achieved.
  • Manage content development for all Town Hall meetings and Leadership Conferences (and help prepare internal and external speakers). Support other departments as needed for additional company-wide meetings.
  • Partner with Digital Communications and IT to continually look for ways to improve intranet usability based on metrics and user feedback.
  • Maintain the company intranet homepage, acting as a "corporate journalist" to tell compelling stories about employees, our brand, and the industry. Ensure content is timely, consistent with organizational strategies and inspires and re-engages our employees.
  • Develop content in support of internal and external executive/C-level communications; write and edit all-employee emails associated with corporate and organizational announcements
  • Enhance two-way dialogue with employees and management through the creation and management of new channels that enhance employee connection and engagement.
  • Stay up to date on the changing digital landscape to ensure optimal strategy across existing channels, as well as recommending new platforms for consideration.
  • Collaborate with various cross-functional leadership and team members in the development of external and internal communications strategies for key strategic initiatives.
  • Project/budget/vendor management on relevant projects involving agency support when needed.

Job Requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • 10 – 15 years’ experience in leading internal communications, with some marketing or public relations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or English.
  • Ability to synthesize and accurately disseminate information from a variety of sources and individuals into a compelling message that can be delivered across a diverse and dispersed audience.
  • Proven track record of taking initiative to identify and solve internal communications. challenges, and in leading executives and others to support and champion an effective internal communications program.
  • Storytelling skills; ability to distill complex concepts, craft a compelling narrative, and build an emotional connection.
  • Collaboration; exceptional ability to create productive relationships with cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
  • Ability to create compelling presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Adaptability, willing to take on projects big and small.
  • Project management experience necessary; event planning experience a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task, able to set priorities, and work under deadline pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience using multiple communications platforms, including digital, print and video?
  • Ability to bring the best out in others; a sense of humor and passion for what you do.
