Seasonal Equipment Operator 2 (Yard Hostler)

Job Description

Summary of Position: Equipment Operator 2 is responsible for managing the receiving and inspection of equipment (Yard Hostlers, forklifts, top loaders, etc.) and outside facilities. In addition, position will be responsible for the M&R of cargo equipment (roll trailers and power units, trailers, containers, chassis, flatbeds,) as per the Company Procedures and Guidelines. Interacts with all other departments to insure availability and minimal turn times are achieved with equipment. Store, prepare, and issue products and materials in the warehouse. Load and unload materials to and from designated storage area, such as racks, shelves, or vehicles. Install protective devices, such as bracing, locks, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported. Stack or pile materials, such as lumber, boards, or pallets. Attach identifying tags or mark information of product or material. Verify computations against physical count of stock. Seeks advice and guidance on non-outline or problem areas from supervisor.

The primary responsibility/essential functions of this position include the following, but are subject to change based on operating necessity.

  • Inspections and release of all inbound and outbound containers.
  • Shuttling and staging of all containers in the yard for specified departments.
  • Inventory Management of all containers and trailers in the yard.
  • Responsible for all Recycled cardboard program including bailer operation and clean-up.
  • Responsible for all Pallet repairs, ordering, repairing and inventory of pallets when needed.
  • Responsible for overall Cleanliness of the Truck Yard and Lounge.
  • Ensure that all safety related processes are met in the Truck Yard area.
  • Under close supervision, exercises limited latitude/independent judgment.

Job Requirements

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Work with little or no supervision
  • Lifting up to 60 lbs is required
  • Detail oriented
  • Forklift Experience a plus
  • Ability to operate some hand machinery (power nail gun, electric saws, etc.)
  • Accurately use basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and guidelines within the DC.

Work Hours and Environment:

  • A typical work hour for the day shift is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Overtime and some weekend work may be required based on business needs.
  • Work in a warehouse setting and possess the ability to work on your feet throughout the shift.
  • Work in a comfortable work environment but with regular exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes.
