Job Description

Summary of Position: The purpose of the role is to ensure the safe operations of the Distribution Center on a shift by shift basis, while complying with all the statutory requirements and company safety, health, environmental and operating standards and procedures. Provide assistance to the site in relation to Safety and Health Risk Management in consultation with the Facility Maintenance Department. Monitor and ensure correct implementation and management of safety procedures. Provide safety orientation and equipment operator training. This is a full-time, non-exempt position which reports to the Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor.

The primary responsibility/essential functions of this position include the following but are subject to change based on operating necessity.

  • Assists in accident investigations, Red Folder investigations, and administer drug/alcohol tests as necessary.
  • Provide equipment operator training, certification, and documentation.
  • Actively participate on the safety committee, assist with note-taking, distribution of monthly safety topics, etc.
  • Maintain video library and update on the routine basis.
  • Walk facility throughout shift to ensure its safety.
  • Be available to stand in for contract security if needed.
  • Respond in a timely and appropriate manner to any safety concerns within or around the entire distribution center.
  • Provide direction to contract security officers in the absence of the EHS supervisor.
  • Maintain all safety signage to provide current information.
  • Ensure relevant PPE is available
  • Keep the SDS folders up to date.
  • Inspect Fire Extinguishers on a monthly schedule.
  • Review and keep current the Job Safety Analysis for all departments.
  • Review and provide weekly reports on training status to the EH&S Supervisor
  • Conduct safety and training follow up sessions.

Job Requirements

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be able to stand &/or walk throughout your shift.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products; Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Interact positively with visitors and team members.
  • Possess excellent phone skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations.
  • Current certification in Basic First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain certification.

Work Hours and Environment:

  • Work hours: Swing shift hours are Monday-Friday from 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm. However, these hours are subject to modification based on business needs.
  • Overtime and some weekend work required based on business needs.
  • Work in a warehouse setting.
  • Some outdoor work and being exposed to inclement weather conditions is required.
