Gymboree Group, Inc. is looking for a qualified interns to join our diverse team in the San Francisco corporate offices. The intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of Merchandising and the Janie and Jack brand. This will be a paid full-time summer internship, with an expected start date of 06/04/2018 and an expected end date of 08/03/2018.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Janie and Jack Merchandising intern’s specific duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Participate in all steps in the upcoming product assortment process, while working simultaneously to review in-season business performance on assigned category.
  • Attend Development Sample and Costing meetings with Merchants.
  • Maintain close relationship with Planning partner for in-season business analysis and pre-season planning and forecasting.
  • Analyze department’s financial performance by recapping weekly, in-season midsight, and post-season hindsight.
  • Understand product trends, and be mindful of historical data in order to manage in-season opportunities or risks.
  • Work on special ad hoc projects and product deep dives to present out to Merchants.
  • Understand competitive environment and conduct analysis both in-stores and online.
  • Partner with Merchant to curate Web and Marketing “Key Looks”.
  • Hone excellent cross-functional relationships with Planning, Design, Web, Marketing, Allocation, Visual, Production teams.
  • Assist with sample management.

Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing or recently completed Bachelors or Master’s degree at an accredited university, preferably in Fashion Merchandising or Business equivalent major.
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint are a must have.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written & verbal and must have the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and be able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize urgent needs and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive, work independently as well as with a team.
  • Be flexible and enjoy a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment, and have an interest in a career in the Retail industry.
  • Demonstrate a point of view about product assortment and business opportunities.
  • Understand the Janie and Jack customer and product aesthetic.
