Job Description

The Merchandise Planner will be responsible for creating and managing Tops Down Financial Plans and in-season forecasting for multiple departments. This person will identify business risks and opportunities to maximize sales, profitability, and inventory turn objectives.


  • Develop strategic Tops Down Plan - sales, margin, inventory and will have an emphasis on the department/season code level
  • Partner with the merchant team to identify key business concepts and opportunities
  • Forecasting sales, margin, markdowns and inventories on a weekly / monthly basis and will recommend strategies to maximize profitability
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional partners - merchants, visual, store operations and allocation
  • Collaborating with peers to ensure consistency of information and the sharing of best practices

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required plus 2-4 years' experience in a financial role
  • Demonstrated experience in Top Down and/or Bottoms Up Financial Planning processes and systems
  • Must have a clear understanding of basic financial measures: sales, gross margin, weeks on hand/weeks of supply, etc. and how to maximize them
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • Able to clearly present and support business strategies as well as take ownership to drive the profitability of the department and how it impacts the total business
  • Able to work independently as well as with a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Possess the ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines is essential
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to changing priorities
