Job Description

Summary of Position: The Building Maintenance Mechanic 1 is responsible for supporting the Building Maintenance Team to help ensure the overall maintenance of Gymboree’s Distribution Center. The prosperous candidate will have a basic understanding of mechanical tools and tasks. Strong interpersonal skills a must. This is a full-time, non-exempt position which reports to the Facilities Manager.

The primary responsibilities/essential functions of this position include the following, but are subject to change based upon operating necessity:

  • Take direction from Building Maintenance Mechanic 2 or Facility Manager.
  • Have an entry level knowledge of welding and brazing.
  • Have a working knowledge of all hand tools and electrical power tools.
  • Have an entry level knowledge of the following areas: Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, HVAC, Welding and Carpentry.
  • Have a working knowledge in maintaining industrial forklift batteries.
  • Have a working knowledge in changing industrial forklift batteries with a battery changer.
  • Have a working knowledge in maintenance and repair of industrial forklift battery chargers.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of powered industrial forklifts.
  • Responsible for keeping a clean and orderly battery changing area.
  • Must be able to wear PPE for long periods of time, ie, respirator, gloves, eye protection, smock.
  • Under supervision assist in the repairs of structures including exterior walkways, ceilings, and walls.
  • Perform general maintenance procedures as outlined in the PM schedule.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with customers and Team Members using e-mail, memos, and/or spreadsheets.
  • Assist in maintaining a full complement of tools necessary to perform general repair and service work.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate spare parts inventory levels to perform PM procedures and equipment breakdowns.
  • Knowledge of fire and evacuation plan.

Job Requirements

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of computer skills including Word and Excel software.
  • Possess strong written and verbal skills.

Work Hours and Environment:

  • Typical work hours for day shift: Monday thru Friday 6:00a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Overtime and some weekend work may be required based on business needs.
  • Work in a warehouse setting and possess the ability to work on your feet throughout the shift.
