Job Description

Summary of Position: The Janitorial team is responsible for supporting the Maintenance and LP team to ensure an overall clean environment at the Gymboree Distribution Center. Work involves performing moderately simple, heavy cleaning tasks requiring extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending and lifting. Work is repetitive and is performed according to schedules and instructions. Employee(s) must be capable of performing any and all of the listed duties individually or independently which may vary based upon their work location/assignment and available staffing. Assignments involve sustained physical effort and some exposure to dust, dirt, chemical solutions/solvents/odors and minor injury hazards. The prosperous candidate will have a basic understanding of mechanical tools and tasks. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. This is a full-time, non-exempt position which reports to the Environmental Health & Safety Supervisor.

The primary responsibilities /essential functions of this position include the following, but are subject to change based on operating necessity:

  • Take work instructions from Janitorial Lead.
  • Dust desks, cabinets, counter tops, and all other office equipment
  • Empty waste receptacles and replace trash liners as needed.
  • Restore paper products in dispensers as necessary.
  • Clean and disinfect all restrooms in office and warehouse areas.
  • Sweep and wet mop all tile floors.
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas.
  • Clean front entrance door.
  • Remove debris from outside entrances and patio areas.
  • Remove cobwebs as necessary.
  • Clean kitchen and lunchroom areas.
  • Dust mops all warehouse floor surfaces.
  • Clean all glass windows as needed
  • Strip and re-wax tile floors as needed
  • Shampoo and steam clean carpets as needed.
  • Operates powered equipment to scrub and buff floors
  • Uses and cares for power cleaning equipment and other supplies according to written and oral instructions

Job Requirements

  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and guidelines within the DC.
  • Work with little or no supervision
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to operate some hand machinery (power nail gun, electric saws, etc.)
  • Accurately use basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be physically capable of extensive walking, stooping, pushing, carrying, climbing, bending, and lifting of up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Ability to climb ladders and move heavy objects.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience with a janitorial cleaning team.

Hours of Work and Work Environment:

  • Typical day shift work hours are Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Work in a warehouse setting and possess the ability to work on your feet throughout an 8+ hour shift.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on business need.
