What You’ll Do

This role is responsible for management of developing and costing new/innovative fabrics and washes for the Knits division, while managing a direct report.

The Fabric Manager will manage price negotiations seasonally and partner with the production team to strategically source fabric while maintaining supplier relationships. This individual will contribute their technical expertise at all stages of the product pipeline which includes fabric testing and in season bulk issues. The Manager will also be responsible for managing calendar deadlines, development tracking, as well as the handling of daily communication with internal business partners, Mills, and overseas agents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the seasonal development of Knit fabrics
  • Provide seasonal trend direction to design while meeting costing parameters
  • Utilize technical expertise to translate design intent; cost engineer fabrics within brands parameters
  • Troubleshoot development issues & work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues quickly
  • Negotiate fabric costs with mills
  • Recommend best print techniques, dyeing, construction and washes
  • Build and maintain relationships with mills, suppliers, agents and cross-functional partners
  • Maintain fabric and wash libraries
  • Manage development calendar and tools to meet deadlines
  • Partner with Product Integrity on testing to ensure all fabrics meet Gymboree standards
  • Partner with Design/Merchandising on new product categories for the brand
  • Daily communication with overseas mills and agents
  • Manage an Associate Fabric Manager

Job Requirements

What You’ll Bring

  • BA/BS Degree in Product Development, Textiles or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 5 years in the technical fabric field with experience in children's or adult apparel
  • Minimum 2 years managing a direct report
  • Domestic as well as overseas fabric sourcing and negotiating experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to adjust to the current needs of a fast-paced, dynamic department
  • Strong PC skills: Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; PLM preferred
  • Knit experience is a must
