Job Description

Summary of Position: An Equipment Operator in the Distribution Center’s (D.C.) Shipping Team is responsible for preparing all boxes for shipment in an accurate and timely fashion. This position requires boxes to be labeled, closed and moved from the shipping area to the shipping dock. This is a non-exempt position, which reports to the Shift Operations Supervisor. An equipment operator who is authorized and scheduled to drive either a forklift, order picker and/or yard dog is responsible for moving, locating, relocating, consolidating, stacking, picking, and counting of merchandise. The Operator is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle up to and including observing all maintenance procedures before and after driving. Based on work demand, this position does not exclude equipment operators from working in non-equipment areas

The primary responsibilities/essential functions of this position include the following, but are subject to change based upon operating necessity:

  • Scan bar codes on each box and accurately label and mark each box for shipment.
  • Insert packing slip in each box and ensure each box is securely taped and strapped.
  • Operate automated taping machine. Trouble-shoot problems as needed.
  • Lift and move boxes up to 60 lbs. from shipping conveyor to pallets continuously during the shift.
  • Place and stack boxes, up to 60 lbs. each, onto pallets. Reach, bend and pull roll of shrink-wrap around filled pallets to secure boxes and prepare for shipment.
  • Operate a hand pallet jack to move filled pallets of merchandise, up to 1,000 lbs. to and from the shipping dock.
  • Stack merchandise into trailers for shipment.

Job Requirements

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Accurately use basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Read and interpret picking sheet to fulfill orders accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and guidelines within the DC.

Work Hours and Environment:

  • Typical work hours for day shift are 6:00am – 2:30pm Monday thru Friday.
  • Typical work hours for swing shift are 2:45pm – 11:15pm Monday thru Friday.
  • Overtime and some weekend work may be required based on business needs.
  • Work in a warehouse setting and possess the ability to work on your feet throughout the shift.
