Director, Production & Sourcing, Accessory Category Management

Position Summary

The Director, Production & Sourcing will be responsible to lead the Accessory Category team to unlock the purchasing power, project and place goods strategically, improve quality and develop effective partnerships with agents, vendors and cross-functional partners. Relationships include mills, suppliers, and internal groups. This role reports to the Global Sourcing VP.


  • Develop and influence others to align with placement strategy.
  • Identify and Develop relationships with new and existing suppliers.
  • Oversee team of experts who can problem-solve technical and aesthetic issues in development of product.
  • Provide trend input to design. Must be able to understand how to generate and filter trend to present relevant, achievable trends in the brand price point.
  • Own a brand category sourcing strategy by agent, vendor, and country and clearly communicate strategy to internal and external partners.
  • Strategically manage the number of partners.
    • Travel to vendors to build partnership, gather innovative ideas and products, review production and continue to be educated and educate our partners.
    • Set clear expectations of deliverables for each partner and give quarterly feedback.
  • Reserve production space at key vendor partners on yearly basis.
  • Effective internal partnerships
    • Design and Merchandising
      • Partner on big idea programs for optimal placement, cost engineering product and setting key program cost targets. Provide 2-way production development inspiration.
    • Product Safety/Quality
      • Cross-brand view of Product Safety/Quality issues that can impact strategy moving forward.
  • Owner of all in season production for Brand.
    • Responsible to keep the merchant head and leadership updated on high level production or sourcing issues or concerns.
    • Focus with quality team on driving exceptionally quality with our partners
  • Seasonally:
    • Attend key brand meetings (as well as prep meetings) Yearly Financials, Financials, Buy Strategy and Final Unit Review
    • Set costing roll-up schedule and publish out cost roll-up.
    • Project out yearly costing by dv and as total year.
  • Ongoing:
    • Point person for Brand heads of Design, Merchandising and Technical Design
    • Owner of the Brand Calendar
  • Lead a team of 8-10 team members
  • Transition teams to cross-brand category focus for sourcing, costing and placement
    • Ensure direct reports are clear on core responsibilities
    • Development plans in place on areas for improvement and growth. Address performance concerns.
    • Training programs put in place to ensure team expertise
  • Identify and proactively engage Global Sourcing VP and cross-functional partners when issues arise with recommendations for viable options/solutions
  • Continually assess how team works and eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies

Job Requirements


  • A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent industry experience (7-10 years)
  • 7-10 years related experience
  • Strategic leader who can drive themselves and their team to meet and surpass set goals
  • Strong interpersonal, organization and verbal/written skills
  • Thorough and accurate on communication and follow-up
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and work with a keen sense of urgency
  • Ability to proactively trouble shoot and problem solve
  • Knowledge of garment construction and manufacturing methods/process
  • Strong computer skills (Momentis Excel, Microsoft Outlook/Office)
