The Compensation & Benefits Department is responsible for assessing the needs of our employee population across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada in order to deliver world-class benefits programs to our employees. The Director of Compensation & Benefits will lead the team to ensure Gymboree's benefits programs are competitive, innovative, comply with regulations, are delivered in a cost-effective manner and reflect Gymboree's culture. Additionally, this position will assist upper management with Gymboree's compensation programs. Specifically, the Director, Compensation & Benefits will be responsible for managing a team of seven who are responsible for a high volume of multi-state, multi-country leaves of absences (maternity, medical, personal, and family care), workers' compensation and safety. This position also requires program management of various employee benefit programs that include medical, dental, vision, life, flexible spending, disability and 401(k) plans. Stock administration experience is a plus. This position requires a good mix of hands-on, operational and design experience, as well as a solid working knowledge of employment laws and regulations. Candidates must have demonstrated project management experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. The Director of Compensation & Benefits will be expected to evaluate current benefits programs and strategize with upper management and the team on how they can be improved. This person will interact with employees, brokers and vendors and is required to provide a high level of customer service at all times.

Job Requirements

  • BA/BS plus a minimum of 6 years significant benefits experience
  • Experience managing a team, strong analysis, auditing, and attention to detail skills are required
  • Possess strong knowledge of FMLA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, IRS regulations, multi-state/multi-country leave regulations and workers' compensation
  • Experience in managing various health and welfare plans required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must display excellent customer services skills and must have the ability to work independently as well as in teams, propose solutions to problems, and multi-task
  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced, high volume, ever changing, fun environment
  • Microsoft Word and solid Excel skills required, ADP Enterprise Version 5 experience preferred
